The BDO (Biofuel Development Opportunity) Zone Initiative is an internationally recognized investment-readiness program that assesses a region’s suitability for bio-based manufacturing based on factors such as feedstock supply, infrastructure and supply chain capacity. Similar to a financial credit rating, BDO Zone ratings help investors understand a region’s readiness and competitiveness for new bio-based development.
Working in partnership with Ecostrat and the BDO Zone Initiative, Economic Development Regina helped assess the Greater Regina Area’s readiness for bio-based manufacturing. The region became the first in BDO Zone history to receive three investment-grade ratings: AA for canola biomass, A for wheat straw and BBB for canola straw. Together, these ratings highlight the region’s biomass resources, infrastructure and supply chain strengths, and the opportunity for future bio-based investment.
