Regina’s entrepreneurial community continues to grow and attract investors

(Regina) Economic Development Regina is pleased to welcome Valhalla Angels to Regina as they announce their expansion into Saskatchewan.

Regina’s economy is built on a strong foundation. Our physical assets, expertise across multiple sectors, innovative nature and connectedness as a community have created fertile ground for growth.

In consultation with dozens of leaders from across Regina’s economy, EDR has identified access to capital as an area of need for Regina-based businesses and entrepreneurs. In an economic downturn like the one created by the covid-19 pandemic, where investors often choose to stay closer to home, it’s more important than ever that capital is available right here.

“Valhalla Angels’ presence here will help to ensure that Regina’s highly innovative entrepreneurial community has the support it needs to grow and thrive,” stated John Lee, CEO of Economic Development Regina. “Regina welcomes the opportunity for Valhalla Angels to provide our local angel investors with new networks and supports.”

Starting with a single city angel investor group, Valhalla Angels, has grown exponentially since 2013 to meet the lifecycle needs of both businesses and investors across the globe. This expansion positions Valhalla as the largest Angel group in Western Canada with presence in 6 cities (Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Vancouver, Regina and Saskatoon) and a remote membership program.

“Valhalla’s expansion into Saskatchewan addresses gaps that the investment and startup community had identified including more access to capital, greater deal flow and additional capacity for entrepreneurs and businesses” says Evelyn Cerda, President of the Saskatchewan Chapters.

Randy Thompson, CEO of Valhalla Private Capital states “These are critical times where access to early-stage capital is key to nurture innovation and new ventures. We are looking forward to connect with local organizations, companies and investors as we establish our presence in the region and kick-off our fall programming”.

Local, experienced and aspiring investors are now able to become members of the new Regina and Saskatoon Chapters and participate in pitch forums, training and networking opportunities available right away.
