Regina’s Bernadette McIntyre Receives National Volunteer Award
For Immediate Release
March 22, 2019
(REGINA) Economic Development Regina congratulates Bernadette McIntyre on being recognized as Sport Event Volunteer of the Year in Canada, by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA). The award was presented in Montreal during the association’s Prestige Awards event. The awards recognize those who work to bid, host and stage sport events across the country.
Bernadette was recognized for her key volunteer roles in the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier; 2018 CP Women’s Open; and 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup held in Regina.
Her award citation noted: “Bernadette McIntyre played key volunteer roles in each one. She chaired the Bid Committee for the Tim Hortons Brier, then formed the Host Committee and served on its executive. For the CP Women’s Open, she co-chaired the Host Committee which had 21 event committees, 42 co-chairs and over 1100 volunteers. For the Mastercard Memorial Cup she acted as a liaison between the Host Committee and the venue. Her boundless energy and exceptional organizational skills ensured that event participants, volunteers and attendees had truly fulfilling experiences.”
“People like Bernadette make it possible for Regina to punch above its weight in hosting national and international events,” said EDR President & CEO John Lee. “It has been my very good fortune to work with her across a wide spectrum of events and activities over the past twenty years. Bernie is always there, always ready to lead and make things happen. She exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism that makes Regina such a great host for these events.”
While 2018 was a great year for special events in Regina, the combined teams of EDR, Regina Hotel Association, and many local groups continue to work hard, bidding for future events, conventions, and trade shows.
“Last year the team put together twenty-one bids,” said Lee. “That kind of effort, coupled with amazing facilities like the International Trade Centre and Mosaic Stadium and our incredible group of committed volunteers, is why we consistently attract big events like the 2020 Grey Cup.”
