Economic Development Regina Launches “Game Changing” Mapping Tool
For Immediate Release
February 27, 2020
(Regina, SK) Economic Development Regina (EDR) today launched a new website tool, which compiles valuable data for companies looking to locate everything from factories to retail stores in Regina, all displayed on a single page. The new tool makes it easier than ever to view and export key information on available commercial properties, regional demographics, city infrastructure, and more.
“This Site Selector represents City Council’s desire to make it as simple and straight-forward as possible to help grow Regina and increase investment in our city,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “Providing as much information as possible in an accessible format will help us engage people from around the world who recognize the potential that exists here.”
“This new tool has the potential to change the game for businesses looking to invest in the GRA,” said EDR President & CEO John Lee. “In past this data was spread out among many different sources, at times making the research process cumbersome and time-consuming. By compiling it and streamlining the process, we’re making it much easier to find exactly the right location for new commercial and industrial development.”
The site selection tool, which is available free on EDR’s website, uses a GIS-enabled map to show the location and density of existing commercial real estate and available industrial land for development. It can answer questions like: How many biotechnology companies are there in Regina? Where can you find the highest concentration of tradespeople? Where is available industrial land located? How does Regina Transit serve my proposed location?
Users can easily find details about land or buildings, and relevant data for that area of the city, from consumer spending patterns, to labour supply, to the location of similar businesses or potential competitors. The map also includes the ability to display data from the City of Regina including land use zones, storm water and sewer lines, and transit routes.
“Land development and communicating opportunities in real-time with this EDR’s tool will be a huge economic advantage for our city,” said James Bogusz, President and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority. The airport will proudly be utilizing this technology to create awareness for commercial and industrial development lands at YQR as they become ready to market.”
